This interactive Unreal Engine 5 demo of “Defying Darkness” is an escape room style game, in a thriller horror genre, that takes place in an abandoned hospital. Made for the Coursera Blueprint Scripting course. (Click here to download the game demo)

In the Escape Room demo, the player stumbles into a hospital at the start of the game. When the player enters far enough, a lockdown is triggered by a laser trip alarm, and they have to make their way through the large complex to find a way out, navigating various medical rooms, corridors, floors, obstacles, locked doors, and a basic puzzle. When the game is completed, a Game Over screen appears with simple menu options.
There is a main menu screen with a looping background video (also made in Unreal Engine 5.5 Motion Design system) and a custom soundtrack that is randomized. The loading screen also displays random images as well.
The goal of the demo is to provide a simple proof of concept with a variety of objectives, menu navigation, audio systems, and interactive blueprint functionality between different systems. The Blueprints range from simple to advanced complexity.
The main environment assets used are Meshingun's Apocalyptic Hospital, Dekogon's Quarantine Medical Tent, and a Modular Parking Garage from FAB.
